Canterbury's two universities are about to begin the biggest period of their sporting calender as they prepare for Varsity.
For University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, the teams will believe their whole season could depend on these matches, with bragging rights for the year at stake.
With the likes of the Men's Rugby 1st and 2nd XV matches and the football or netball matches likely to be some of the most hotly contested, Varsity will mean a huge amount not just to those involved in the games but also all of the students from the universities.
One student who knows how important Varsity can be is Joe Purvis, a 19 year old Christ Church student who was a member of the Men's Rugby 2nd squad last year.
Joe was an unused substitute last year but knows at first hand what these games mean to people.
He says: "Varsity is simply the biggest even in the university sporting calender. It means so much to us as players, and even more so because we know that it means a lot to all of the students too."
Even though Joe wasn't playing last year, he understands how the games can affect so many people. He says: "In most normal matches the only ones who really worry about it are those of you involved, but when Varsity comes around it is important to you, the rest of the students and all the old students as well."

The first events have kicked off already, with the swimming, taekwondo and women's volleyball match-ups taking place over the weekend, but the majority of the events will be played this week, with Wednesday being the main hub of activity.
